Configuring VLAN and InterVLAN on Cisco Packet Tracer
Hello everyone, this time I will make a discussion about VLAN and InterVLAN. This is where the previous discussion we discussed Switchport port-security.
Ok, let’s get straight into the topic of discussion… 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
What are VLANs and InterVLANs?
Virtual LANs or often called VLANs, are several devices that are connected in the same LAN in a switch, on the same line, and can communicate with each other. While InterVLAN is a process to forward network traffic from a VLAN to another VLAN using a router to communicate with each other.
Example VLANS and InterVLANs
here I have a question and a topology that must be created and configured.
there are several steps to be carried out in the VLAN and InterVLAN configuration.
IP Address Configuration of Each PC
The first step is to configure the IP Address on each PC
- PC0
- PC1
- PC2
- PC3
- PC4
- PC5
Basic Configuration of Router and Switch Devices (Switch0 and Switch 1)
Next, perform basic configuration of Router and Switch devices (Switch0 and Switch1)
- Router0
- Switch0
- Switch1
VLAN Configuration on Each Switch Device
Then configure the VLAN on each switch device according to the provisions of VLAN 20 (SALES): Fa0/1–10 and VLAN 10 (HR): Fa0/11–15
- Switch0
- Switch1
And proceed with configuring trunks on ports connected between switches where the function is so that every VLAN that goes through the switch port can be passed without having to be in the same VLAN with it. To configure Trunk, it is enough that only one switch has a trunk configuration, and the switch next to it will trunk itself in auto mode.
Then a ping test with fellow VLANs through that path can be done.
- Test Ping Between VLANs 10
- Test Ping Between VLANs 20
Then the question is, How can I communicate between VLANs (VLAN 10 and VLAN 20)???
Well, this is where the role of InterVLAN is to connect between different VLANs in a network.
InterVLAN Configuration
The way to configure InterVALN is on the switch port directly connected to the router, configure Trunk, and configure the sub-interface.
- Switch0
- Router0
PING test between different VLAN PCs
Here, do a ping experiment between PC1 (SALES) and PC4 (HR)
FINISH!!
Maybe that’s all I can share with friends. If you have input and suggestions, please comment.
Thank you, hopefully, useful, and don’t forget to share with other friends. ^_^
